BC Utilities Commission (BCUC) and the BC Environmental Assessment Office (BCEAO) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to coordinate their processes, where possible, in order to promote the efficient and effective regulation of public utilities. In many cases a utility will require both a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity and an Environmental Assessment Certificate resulting in potential overlap between the processes conducted by the BCUC and BCEAO. In the case of a coordinated project the BCUC and BCEAO have agreed to utilize the model attached as Appendix A to the MOU as the basis for the common scheduling of their processes, modified as necessary to accommodate the specific circumstances.
